B3106 FLIGHT WINGMAN 1.0 hours airborne + briefings

G-Awareness Exercises, Breakouts & Rejoins

High-G maneuvering and emergency deconfliction procedures

OBJECTIVE

Enable trainees to perform G-awareness exercises (G-X), execute breakouts, and conduct rejoins as wingman in the T-38 Talon, practicing setup, load anticipation, deconfliction, and safe recovery, to build physiological tolerance and procedural proficiency integrating communications per AFMAN 11-2T-38V3 standards.

CONTENT

Pre-Flight Briefing and Preparation

  • • Review of prior formations and ground lessons on G-X/breakouts; discuss sortie objectives, VMC minima, and T-38 G-limits (7.33G max symmetric).
  • Formation planning: Brief G-X sequences (90° turns increasing to 5G+), breakout directives, rejoin paths, and tolerances.
  • Wingman focus: G-suit checks, anticipation calls ("ready"), immediate breakout execution.

T-38 G-LIMITS

Max Symmetric: +7.33G
Negative: -3.0G
G-X Target: 5G+
Turn Angle: 90°

Airborne Procedures and Maneuvers

  • Departure and setup: VFR takeoff from KSPS, rejoin to route or fighting wing for G-X entry.
  • G-X exercises: Follow lead's 90° turns at escalating G, reset G-meter, ops checks between; breakouts on directive or safety.
  • Rejoins: Post-breakout, execute safe rejoin to prior formation using visual/radio cues.
  • Comms and signals: "Ready" calls, KIO if needed, acknowledgments for directives.

G-X SEQUENCE

  1. Lead calls "G-X, 4G"
  2. Wingman responds "2, Ready"
  3. Execute 90° turn at called G-load
  4. Reset G-meter, ops check
  5. Repeat at 5G, then 6G if able

BREAKOUT PROCEDURE

On "Breakout" or safety need:

15° bank away → 15 seconds → Wings level → Await rejoin clearance

Post-Flight Debrief

  • Performance evaluation: Assess G-tolerance, breakout timing, rejoin stability via data.
  • Trainee reflection: Discuss physiological effects and lost wingman prep.

SORTIE TASKS

IP required. Fly as wingman. VMC only. Fly on VATSIM IAW VATSIM regulations.

Pre-Sortie

  1. 1Brief with IP: G-X sequence (90° turns at escalating G), breakout procedure (15° bank away from lead, hold 15 sec, wings level, await clearance), and rejoin paths
  2. 2Check G-suit fit and harness tightness; file flight plan on VATSIM; depart as a flight with IP as lead

Sortie

  1. 3After departure, rejoin to route or fighting wing position on IP's call
  2. 4Enter G-X on IP's call: follow IP's 90° turns at escalating G; reset G-meter between each set
  3. 5Demonstrate 5G+ load on at least one G-X set
  4. 6Execute breakout on IP's directive: 15° bank away, hold 15 seconds, wings level; await rejoin clearance
  5. 7Complete post-breakout rejoin smoothly without overrun; complete ops checks as directed
  6. 8Return to home field on IP's call; break and land as directed

Post-Sortie

  1. 9Debrief with IP: review G-X performance, breakout timing, and rejoin quality
  2. 10Log the sortie in the vTAC flight log system

Approved Callsigns

BULL · ZOOM · LIGHT · VOID — dual formation sortie
BLACK · CHOSEN · STAFF — if command is present

COMPLETION STANDARDS

Trainees will demonstrate proficiency in G-X, breakouts, and rejoins through successful sortie execution. Trainees must:

  • Demonstrate proper G-anticipation (5G+ loads)
  • Execute timely breakouts (15° bank/15 sec)
  • Perform stable rejoins without errors per AFMAN 11-2T-38V3 standards

Completion: Instructor confirmation of progression to lost wingman/BDA
