Air-to-Ground
IP Course Evaluation - IFF Block 1 A/G Skills
OBJECTIVE
Evaluate the IP candidate's ability to demonstrate and teach air-to-ground attack procedures including dive bombing patterns, strafe runs, and CAS coordination. The candidate must execute attack profiles to standard while providing clear instructional commentary on IP-to-target flow, release parameters, and corrective techniques.
EVALUATION AREAS
Attack Patterns
- • BSA (Basic Surface Attack): Pop-up, roll-in, track, release, recovery
- • SAT (Simulated Attack): Low-angle patterns, level delivery
- • Strafe: Gun runs, tracking, foul line awareness
- • Pattern flow: IP → Base → Target → Egress
Weapons Delivery Parameters
- • Dive angles: 10-30° typical, 45° for steep delivery
- • Release altitude: Min recovery altitude awareness
- • Airspeed: Release speed, G-onset during recovery
- • Sight picture: Pipper placement, wind correction
CAS Coordination
- • 9-Line brief: Target description, location, threats
- • Talk-on: Visual acquisition, target confirmation
- • Clearance: "Cleared hot" procedures, abort calls
- • BDA: Battle damage assessment, re-attack
Instructional Demonstration
- • Pattern geometry: Explain base leg, roll-in, track
- • Common errors: Early/late roll-in, steep/shallow dive, rushed release
- • Corrections: Sight picture adjustment, energy management
- • Safety: Min altitude, abort criteria, foul line
A/G STANDARDS
±5°
Dive Angle
±500 ft
Release Altitude
±20 kts
Release Airspeed
Safe
Recovery Alt
IP candidates must demonstrate safe recovery altitude management and proper abort criteria.
COMPLETION STANDARDS
IP candidates must demonstrate:
- • Execute minimum 2 BSA patterns with proper parameters
- • Execute minimum 2 strafe passes demonstrating proper tracking
- • Demonstrate proper IP-to-target flow and communications
- • Maintain safe recovery altitudes on all passes
- • Provide clear instructional commentary on attack geometry
- • Identify common student errors and demonstrate corrections
Pass: Demonstrate expert A/G execution with effective instructional delivery
