B1107 FLIGHT 1.5 hours simulator

Integrated Scenario Practice

Full integration of all Block 1 VFR skills in a single sortie

OBJECTIVE

Enable trainees to integrate all Block 1 ground knowledge, flight skills, communications, and decision-making in a single comprehensive VFR mission with instructor feedback and coaching.

CONTENT

Mission Briefing

  • Scenario overview: Plan and execute a VFR cross-country flight incorporating direct GPS navigation, pattern work at civilian/military fields, low-level route entry, and night elements.
  • Practice focus: Instructor will provide real-time coaching and identify areas needing improvement.

Flight Execution

  • • Start with flight planning and communications; demonstrate basic control during departure.
  • En route: Proceed direct via GPS, enter/activate low-level route or SUA, maintain altitudes/speeds.
  • Airport operations: Perform civilian and military patterns with accurate radio calls; transition to night for final legs.

SKILLS PRACTICED

Flight Planning GPS Navigation Low-Level Route Civilian Pattern Military Pattern Night Operations

Instructor Coaching

  • • Instructor may pause to provide feedback on technique, communications, or decision-making.
  • • Practice handling simulated emergencies (e.g., lost comms, GPS failure, illusions).
  • • Repeat problem areas as needed to build proficiency.

Debrief and Readiness Assessment

  • • Instructor reviews all maneuvers, communications, and responses to scenarios.
  • Readiness assessment: Identify any remaining weak areas and recommend additional practice if needed.

Safety Emphasis

  • • Adhere to all rules; go-around or divert as needed for safety.
  • Illusion and Hazard Management: Practice recognizing and mitigating night illusions.

SORTIE TASKS

Active controller required for SUA activation. No instructor required — fly independently and self-evaluate against Block 1 standards.

Pre-Sortie

  1. 1Plan a full VFR cross-country route incorporating GPS navigation, a SUA segment, civilian or military pattern work, and a night return leg
  2. 2File a VATSIM VFR flight plan; confirm an active Center or Approach controller is online before departing
  3. 3Obtain ATIS and contact Ground/Tower for departure; complete FENCE check before the SUA segment

Sortie

  1. 4Depart with full comm sequence (ATIS → Ground → Tower → Departure); proceed direct via GPS to first waypoint
  2. 5Contact Center and request SUA activation IAW VATSIM standards; receive confirmation and transmit "FENCE In"
  3. 6Fly SUA/low-level route at 500–1,500 ft AGL using visual checkpoints; exit and transmit "FENCE Out"
  4. 7Climb to cruising altitude; transit to civilian pattern airport and fly 3+ touch-and-go circuits with full comms
  5. 8Transit to military field; fly 2+ overhead patterns with correct Initial/break/perch/final comms
  6. 9Transition simulator to night; fly return leg to home field using GPS; fly approach and land full-stop

Post-Sortie

  1. 10Log the sortie in the vTAC flight log system

COMPLETION STANDARDS

Trainees will complete the integrated practice mission demonstrating proficiency across all Block 1 skills. Trainees should:

  • Demonstrate all Block 1 skills with improving consistency
  • Work toward maintaining tolerances (±500 ft altitude, ±20° heading, ±20 knots airspeed)
  • Show sound judgment and responsiveness to instructor feedback

Completion: Demonstrate proficiency with instructor sign-off
