M1101 FLIGHT 2.5 hours

Round Robin Cross-Country Execution

Module 1: Mission Training - Flight | Prerequisite: M1001

OBJECTIVE

Execute a multi-leg round robin cross-country flight applying complex flight planning principles from M1001. Demonstrate proficiency in multi-phase fuel management with multiple joker states, destination airport operations, TOLD verification, and flight CRM coordination throughout all mission phases.

EXECUTION

Pre-Flight Requirements

Prior to flight, trainee must present completed flight planning package from M1001 instruction:

  • AF IMT 70: Complete flight plan with all three legs documented.
  • Fuel Plan: All joker states calculated for each leg and overall mission.
  • TOLD Cards: Takeoff and landing data for KSPS, KACT, and KDYS.
  • Weight & Balance: Calculations for departure and each subsequent leg.
  • Airport Study: Completed checklist for KACT and KDYS.
  • Weather Brief: Current conditions and forecast for all fields.

⚠️ NO-GO CRITERIA

Flight will not depart without complete, accurate planning package reviewed by instructor.

Multi-Phase Fuel Management

Execute planned fuel management strategy with phase-specific joker states. Verbalize fuel state at each checkpoint.

MISSION FUEL STATES (EXAMPLE - VERIFY WITH YOUR PLAN)

LEG 1 JOKER (KSPS → KACT)

Minimum at TOD to complete Leg 1 + Legs 2 & 3 + reserve

~4,800 lbs

LEG 2 JOKER (KACT → KDYS)

Minimum at TOD to complete Leg 2 + Leg 3 + reserve

~3,200 lbs

LEG 3 JOKER (KDYS → KSPS)

Minimum at TOD to complete approach, landing + reserve

~1,800 lbs

BINGO (Any Phase)

Land at nearest suitable—mission abort

~1,200 lbs

FUEL CALLS - REQUIRED

• State fuel at each waypoint/fix

• Call "JOKER [leg]" when reaching leg joker state

• Evaluate continue/divert decision at each joker

Leg 1: KSPS → KACT (Waco Regional)

  • Departure: KSPS Rwy 15C/33C, climb via assigned SID or radar vectors.
  • Cruise: FL250, 350 KCAS. Cross-check groundspeed vs. planned.
  • Descent: Plan 3:1 descent ratio. Verify KACT TOLD prior to TOD.
  • Arrival: ILS or visual Rwy 14/32. Full stop taxi.

KACT AIRPORT DATA

Elevation: 516 ft
Rwy 14/32: 6,597 x 150 ft
Approach Cat: C/D
ATIS: 124.65

Leg 2: KACT → KDYS (Dyess AFB)

  • Departure: KACT Rwy 14/32, climb to FL200.
  • Cruise: FL200, 350 KCAS. Recalculate W&B for reduced fuel load.
  • Descent: Coordinate with Dyess Approach. Verify military field procedures.
  • Arrival: ILS/TACAN Rwy 16/34. Full stop. Note: PPR may be required.

KDYS AIRPORT DATA

Elevation: 1,789 ft
Rwy 16/34: 13,500 x 300 ft
Approach Cat: All Categories
Tower: 126.2

MILITARY FIELD CONSIDERATIONS

Review RSU procedures, BAK-12/14 arresting gear locations, and taxiway restrictions. Be prepared for UHF guard monitoring.

Leg 3: KDYS → KSPS (RTB)

  • Departure: KDYS Rwy 16/34, climb to FL250.
  • Cruise: FL250, 350 KCAS. Final fuel assessment—verify above Leg 3 Joker.
  • Descent: KSPS recovery per standard arrival. Overhead or straight-in.
  • Arrival: KSPS pattern, full stop landing. Complete mission.

KSPS RECOVERY

Elevation: 1,015 ft
Rwy 15C/33C: 13,100 x 300 ft
Pattern Alt: 2,500 MSL
Tower: 120.9

TOLD Verification Protocol

Prior to each takeoff, verbally confirm TOLD data with instructor:

TOLD CHALLENGE & RESPONSE

Gross Weight: "[X] pounds, below max takeoff"
Refusal Speed: "[X] knots"
Rotation Speed: "[X] knots"
Takeoff Distance: "[X] feet, runway adequate"
Abort Criteria: "Abort for [conditions] below refusal"

Flight CRM Execution

  • Departure Brief: Full mission brief prior to engine start using M1001 format.
  • Leg Briefs: Abbreviated brief before each subsequent leg.
  • Contingency Review: Identify divert options for each leg (pre-briefed).
  • Debrief: Post-mission debrief covering planning accuracy vs. actual.

ABBREVIATED LEG BRIEF FORMAT

1. Weather at destination (any changes?)

2. Fuel state vs. planned

3. TOLD confirmation

4. Divert options

5. Questions/concerns

Contingency Scenarios

Instructor may introduce the following scenarios during execution:

  • Weather Divert: Destination below minimums—execute divert to alternate.
  • Fuel Deviation: Higher than planned burn—reassess jokers, modify plan.
  • Runway Change: Recalculate TOLD for different runway/conditions.
  • Go-Around: Execute missed approach, fuel reassessment.

DECISION FRAMEWORK

At each joker state: Continue / Modify / Divert. Verbalize decision rationale.

COMPLETION STANDARDS

Trainees will demonstrate proficiency in executing a planned cross-country mission. Must:

  • Present complete, accurate flight planning package prior to departure
  • Execute proper fuel management with correct joker calls at each phase
  • Verify and verbalize TOLD data prior to each takeoff
  • Maintain flight tolerances: altitude ±100 ft, heading ±10°, airspeed ±10 kts
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making when contingencies arise
  • Complete all three legs with safe, on-parameters landings

FLIGHT TOLERANCES

±100 ft

Altitude

±10°

Heading

±10 kts

Airspeed
